Alex and Aleeah's wedding was special for so many reasons. Alex is my brother and when his bride Aleeah asked if I would do their wedding flowers, I tried to contain my ecstatic joy with a calm and cool, professional "yes, I'd love to!" Their ceremony took place in a pasture on her grandparents farm on a beautiful October day during the Golden Hour.
The storms and rain that had been predicted came early, leaving sunshine but A LOT of wind in their wake. Logistically the 25mph gusts of wind could have thrown a kink in the day, but I was prepared with a tool bag full of every conceivable item I might need. Heavy duty fishing line came to the rescue and helped me secure their altar flowers to her grandmother's antique buffet without leaving a mark.
Aleeah wanted her flowers to have a wildflower feel to match the location of her ceremony. I took advantage of in-season dahlias and heirloom mums grown by a Charlotte-area flower farmer (LivGrows) to help achieve the look. Dahlias do not ship well so I was thrilled to be able to take advantage of the premium dahlias available to me locally. She also loves daisies and pops of goldenrod yellow mixed with blue so I made sure to incorporate those colors.

When it comes to the grooms boutonniere, I always include a little something extra to make it stand out. After all, it's the groom's big day too! I added an extra ranunculus flower to Alex's bout and I think the colors matched perfectly with his tie.

This was a family wedding and Aleeah's sister was her only bridesmaid. Ashlann's bridesmaid bouquet was a smaller version of the bridal. Sometimes brides opt for a different look for their maids, but I think in this case it was the right call to match them.

There were a few special people who have passed away that Alex and Aleeah wanted to honor. A chair was left empty for each of these loved ones and I provided roses to help honor their memory.

The reception flowers were SO much fun to do! Aleeah is a potter and made dozens of bud vases to be the centerpiece of her reception dining tables. Each family in attendance chose a bud vase as their wedding favor, flowers and all. What a thoughtful, special reminder of their day.
Barbara Kathleen Photography did a fantastic job capturing Aleeah and Alex's day - she took all the photos in this blog. I was honored to be able to help make Alex and Aleeah's wedding day one for the ages.
